Curtain privacy policy
Last updated: 2 November 2026 (pre-release, version 0.1) · App: Curtain (ai.lazycode.curtain) · Developer: Lazycode (Soumya Ranjan Sethy) · Contact: soumya@lazycode.ai · Website: lazycode.ai/curtain
Curtain hides your screen from people next to you while you type. When your keyboard opens, a curtain covers everything above it. To do that, Curtain uses an Android accessibility service that reads where the keyboard is, which app is open and whether the focused field is a password field. It never reads what you type.
What the accessibility service reads
- The keyboard's position on screen, to know where the curtain stops and when the keyboard opens or closes.
- The name of the app in front (its package name), to remember your pill position per app and to apply your auto-curtain and skip lists.
- The password-field flag of the focused field, so a password or PIN field can curtain itself. For slit mode, which shows only the line you are typing in, it also reads the focused field's size and position.
Curtain never reads or stores the text you type, the contents of any field, or what is on your screen. The service is used for these purposes only. Before you switch it on, the app shows a disclosure that explains the same in plain words, and you can switch it off at any time in Android's Accessibility settings.
What stays on your phone
Your settings (curtain colour and opacity, pill look and position, the apps you add to the auto-curtain and skip lists, your schedule) are saved in the app's private storage on your device. Uninstalling Curtain deletes them. The list of apps you choose is never sent to us.
Usage and crash data
Curtain uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics so we can see which setup steps people get stuck on and fix crashes quickly. This data is processed by Google under Firebase's privacy terms.
- Usage events: setup steps shown or skipped, whether a permission was granted, when the curtain is armed or falls (mode and what triggered it, with a duration range rather than exact times), whether the pill was moved, how quickly the pill appeared, settings that changed, and paywall views.
- Crash and error reports: stack traces and non-fatal errors such as the overlay failing to appear or the accessibility service disconnecting, with your phone brand and model, Android version, the keyboard family (for example Gboard, Samsung or SwiftKey), the curtain mode and whether touch-through is on.
- Identifiers: Firebase creates an app-instance identifier so events and crashes from one install can be grouped. We do not link it to your name or account, because Curtain has no account.
Never collected: what you type, the contents of fields, what is on your screen, or which apps you pick.
This is on by default and explained in onboarding. To turn it off, open Curtain, go to Settings and switch off Share usage and crash data. To ask us to delete data already collected from your install, follow these steps.
Permissions
| Permission or access | Why |
|---|---|
| Accessibility service | Detects the keyboard's position, the foreground app and the password-field flag, as described above. |
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (Display over other apps) | Draws the curtain and the pill. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS, FOREGROUND_SERVICE (special use) | Shows the quiet "Curtain is ready" notification, with a curtain action, and keeps Curtain running. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | Arms Curtain again after a restart, if you chose that. |
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Sends the usage and crash data above, and lets Google Play check an optional Pro purchase. |
Not a screenshot or camera blocker
Curtain is software that hides your screen from a glance. It does not block screenshots, screen recordings or a camera pointed at your phone.
Ads and purchases
Curtain shows no ads. If it offers an optional Pro unlock, payment is handled entirely by Google Play under Google's privacy policy. We never see your payment details.
Children
Curtain is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.
